The Anne Kolb Nature Center is conveniently located near public transportation options.

Getting There:

Flying or Taking the Tri-Rail Train into Fort Lauderdale:

  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is the closest airport and is 5 miles away from the Anne Kolb Nature Center.
  • Utilize the Broward County Transit (BCT) Tri-Rail commuter train or the Broward County Transit bus system from the airport to reach the Nature Center.
• Consider ride-sharing options from the airport to the Anne Kolb Nature Center or your Hotel.

Getting around on Public Transportation:

We encourage you to explore the Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale area via public transportation options, and extensive bike paths and trail network. The weather should be nice and conducive to walks as well. There are “on-demand” shuttles and buses in the area. And consider ride-sharing options for shorter distances. Here are a few ideas to help you get around to local restaurants, hotels and beaches:

  • Utilize Broward County Transit (BCT) buses. Several routes stop near the Nature Center. Check the BCT website for schedules and routes. Or Download the MyRide Broward App (available in the Apple App Store and for Android on Google Play )
  • City of Hollywood Sun Shuttle: This “on-demand” micro-transit services the area for a nominal $2 fee per rider. This service utilizes all-electric, zero-emission GEM Vehicles capable of accommodating up to 5 passengers each.
    • Download the Ride Circuit App Apple App Store or Google Play App
  • City of Hollywood Transit Options
• Consider ride-sharing options like Uber or Lyft, which often have eco-friendly options.
  • Explore classic bikes or electric bikes with Broward Bcycle located at N. Hollywood Beach.

Remember:

  • Every effort to reduce reliance on personal vehicles contributes to a smaller carbon footprint.
  • By choosing eco-friendly transportation, you're helping to protect our planet for future generations.

Fort Lauderdale offers various tourism activities that cater to diverse interests, from outdoor adventures to cultural experiences.

Here are a few suggested sustainable tourist attractions and activities including and near the Anne Kolb Nature Center 751 Sheridan Blvd Hollywood, FL 33019, highlighting nature, water activities, and beaches:

Anne Kolb Nature Center:: 751 Sheridan St, Hollywood, FL 33019A Nature reserve with walking & paddling trails through mangroves, an aquarium & an observation tower.

  • Sustainable features: The nature center is a 1,501-acre nature preserve, home to a diverse habitat for wildlife, including many threatened and endangered species. The center has also taken steps to reduce its environmental impact, such as installing solar panels and water-efficient fixtures.
  • Activities: Hiking and biking trails, kayaking and canoeing, birdwatching, nature education programs, wildlife viewing, fishing, and more.
  • Zero Waste Conference Tip: There will be coffee, tea, and beverages. And bringing our reusable cups has become an accessory that helps us to reduce waste. What are some new ways we can share with others on how we might greatly reduce our footprint during large events? Many minds come up with great ideas and we are looking for new ways to learn from each other!

Hollywood Beach: Fun in the Sun… is simply a must! So in addition to the Zero Waste Forum, why wait for the Summer when you can treat yourself to a bit of a Spring Break? Enjoy the beautiful beaches of Hollywood Beach to the south, and Dania Beach to the north.

  • Zero Waste Beach Tip: Make sure you take out more than you take in. Our beaches and waters receive the impact of human activity. More people leave behind trash than they take with them. Plan a plastic-free picnic and take along a reusable bag to pick up any trash you may see during your day. Share your fun in the sun on social media & people might see your efforts and be inspired to follow the example.
  • Hollywood - Water Activities: In addition to the beaches, South Florida has a wealth of lakes, ponds, mangrove habitats, and the Intracoastal Waterway. And with these locations, you may want to explore local water activities by boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard.
  • Zero Waste Waterfront Tip: We all have seen the impacts of plastic on turtles, sea life, and birds. And then there are the microplastics. Join in on a waterfront cleanup and then let’s imagine… How many ways can we imagine during this vacation where we can reduce our tourism impact on these habitats? We’d love to hear your sustainable vacation ideas.

Ft. Lauderdale - Las Olas Boulevard: Stroll down this vibrant boulevard, known for its upscale shops, restaurants, and nightlife.

  • Zero Waste Shopping Tip: It is fun to get mementos that remind us of the places where we have visited. What handmade crafts can help reduce waste? And if your purchase gets thrown away in the future, would your memories break down into natural elements? Let’s level up from just remembering to bring our reusable shopping bags. What are the ways we can make mindful contributions to the local economies that we visit?

Ft. Lauderdale - Museum of Discovery and Science: Engage in interactive exhibits and learn about science, technology, and the natural world.

Sawgrass Recreation Park: Explore the Florida Everglades with airboat rides, nature trails, and wildlife viewing opportunities.
